GCC at UCSD consists of four principal members. Together we are the faces and ambassadors of the UCSD chapter, and strive to bring UCSD into a greater light in a professional, practical, and global sense. We are:
President: Daphne Tan
Major: Economics
Minor: Chinese Studies and International Studies
Background: Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity, Rec-N-Read, Marketing Assistant at the Guardian Newspaper
Why I chose GCC: After speaking with one of the leaders of GCC, I felt that UCSD is a campus in need of this organization and could truly benefit from having a chapter here. I recognize the growing importance of China and the need to become globally aware. Furthermore, GCC would provide the gap between theories and application for all majors. GCC at UCSD seeks to be an interest group for those who understanding the economic powers of China and are seeking opportunities to network. As president of GCC, I want to provide UCSD students with the opportunity to explore the world through the campus.
Vice President - External: Stephen Wu
Major: Chemical Engineering
Minors: Economics
Expected Graduation Date: 2013
Why I chose GCC: China is currently the fastest economically expanding country, offering limitless opportunities for the world. However, not a lot of people are aware of this pot of gold due to China's closed off history, therefore I am here to act as a liaison between these two parties. Being an international student straight out of China with a background of playing in the stock market for a couple years, I have a fair understanding of the current situation and I'm able to identify and make the connections that are necessary for success. Furthermore, being an international student, China is home and I wish to share this great culture and community to the world.
Vice President - Internal: Christina Kim
Major: International Studies - Poli Sci/Econ
Minors: History
Expected Graduation Date: 2013
Background: Rec-N-Read, Trend Magazine
Why I chose GCC: As an International Studies major, I am well aware of the rise of Asia’s economic and political capabilities. In addition, I recognize the increasing interaction of the global economic world. GCC creates a greater opportunities for college students like myself to be exposed and learn first-hand from other Asian universities how the global interactions will affect our futures.
Director of Administration: Kevin Ngo
Major: Management Science
Minor: Music
Expected Graduation Date: 2013
Why I chose GCC: Economist Jacques Martin once argued that although America oftentimes thinks of itself as a cosmopolitan nation, we are blissfully unaware of just how uncultured we truly are. I believe that in order to progress, America must learn to more deeply immerse itself in the culture of other countries. Both China and America have the limitless opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from each other, and as a management science major with an interest in finance, I believe that China is goldmine for students like myself. I envision GCC to bring a wealth of opportunities to UCSD by opening up networks and resources for students to take a hold of their visions, thereby advancing both their future and the global effort for cooperation.
